I had another thread up about the problems I'm having. I think it may be a timing issue. I am getting a gun from a friend tomorrow hopefully.
I have a 120TLCEM 1989
I rebuilt carbs, adjusted linkage, new thermostats, power pack, 120 psi all cylinders, de carbed motor, new plugs, and it will sometimes idle real nice. I took it out and anything over 1500 rpm's it ran really rough and tried to stall out. Talking to one of the mechanics fromm the boatyard next door he mentioned maybe the timing isn't moving right.
I came home and checked It seems that the timer base isn't advancing. What moves it. There is a linkage that attaches to a plastic tube with a knob on it. There is a spring inside. When the throttle is advanced it pulls this tube, when it is almost to the end it moves the linkage that advances the timer base. At WOT it only advances a little. I can get pics later if anyone has an idea. So it seems to me that The plugs are fouling and engine will not run properly over 1500 because the timing is not advancing the spark. Is there any way to fix this or adjust. the book I have Clymer doesn't say anything about how the timer base advances. The timire base will not always go back to its full starting position.
