Hey guys. Back in November of 2007 I purchased a 1989 Charger DL with a 89 150 merc. Test rode it and it worked perfectly. So now it is about time to get it in the water for the summer. I just wanted to know what maintenance i should be doing for start of the year/new to me motor. As you can probably tell i am a new owner but not new to boating so I am aware of all the rules etc. I am a I/O guy as owning a 1996 mariah and then a 2005 Baja islander. Outboards are new to me thing. Any tips/advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you don't know the last time it was done, you may want to change the impeller and L/U oil.

Thanks for the reply Bhile! Before storage, even though the previous owner said he did it, i changed the lower unit oil and the impeller. I'm almost thinking now if i should run some seafoam in it etc. I've cleaned the gas tank out, changed the fuel lines. Rebuilt the fuel pump. Just trying to make sure I have a flawless summer on this awesome boat! :)

don't hurt to run a can of seafoam in a gallon of mixed gas through it. Just make sure the wind is right. It can be rough on neighbors.

Then run the hell out of it so it don't coke up again.
