I've been searching the archives for a couple hours can't find the answer so here goes .. . .
I was having problems with the tilt/trim on the 150 merc. the solenoids clicked but didn't operate after setting for over a year. I took the trim motor off and took it to a rebuilder and had it rebuilt - he said it was real bad inside rusty etc. I put it back in, put the recommended 5-30 oil in it and wired it up. It worked for about 30 seconds Tilted down okay - I had to click the up several times to get it to work, tilted all the way up to remove the support to the trailer frame and then there is just clicks again. I opened the bleeder valve to lower the motor (let pressure off) lowered the motor checked the fluid level; still only clicks. Not the switch, because it is in a bass boat and I tried another of the three trim switchs.
I did re-mount the unit in the vertical position it was horizontal - couldn't check the fluid without removing it and holding the unit vertically.
Any suggestions? Could it be a ground? Where would I put a new/better ground?
Thanks
Steve
