89 200 Yamaha, yellow oil light on

One motor only ever has the yellow oil light on but oil is being consumed from the remote tank. I was under the impression that in yellow mode the remote pump stops.
I pulled the float sensor in the remote tank and the float is below the circlip. Is that correct? Only goes up and down an inch or so. Or should it be above the circlip?

could also be an open circuit between the engine and the tach, check the green/white lead from the engine harness to the tach for continuity.
