89 4.3 Mercruiser not getting fuel..

My 4.3 mercruiser isn't getting fuel, I can't get the water/fuel seperator off, but I tried bypassing it and going straight to fuel pump and still doesn't appear to be getting any fuel.

After I put some carb cleaner in the carb, it coughed and sputtered like it wanted to start, and if pump the throttle no fuel shows up.. The pump appears to be mechanical, How do I check if its working?

Is this lever supposed to move freely? to pump gas I guess?, doesn't want to move at all..

I'm getting gas from line if I suck on it.

Ayuh,... You have to see if the tank is giving up the fuel...
You have to replace the Filter....
Fuelpumps are tested with a Gauge,...
Vacuum gauge for the suction side, or a pressure gauge for the pressure side...
Ya need 5psi, on the pressure side...

K, Pretty sure everything is working up to the pump, when I suck on the line from the tank gas comes out.

Guess I'm off to get a new filter and fuel pump gauge...

I don't think gas is making it thru the pump, when I blew thru the lower fuel outlet a bunch of dusty air came out the other side (carb vent?) and this was 15 minutes after trying to start it for awhile.

Well, I got it fired up, I opened the fuel pump up and it was all gunked up, cleaned it out, and cleared the carb vent which was blocked with gunk, and it fired right up...

But it won't run on idle, only works if i have the throttle forward a little, like you would idle in gear. Can't figure out what the difference is, could that be the idle screw got messed up?

Or could it just be the old gas? there was no fuel stabilizer put in, its been sitting for a year or so.
