89 4.3L A1 Alternator Issue

Well it would appear that my alternator did not survive the lay up during my repower. I did some poking around to try to find one here at iboats, but am unsure which one I need to purchase. This is an old 1989 system and has a silvery box off the back of the alt. V belt style. Can anyone assist on the alternator I need? Is there a manufacturer stamp or plate on the old one? In a perfect world, I'd like to go with a higher amperage unit to help with the additional electronics on board. I think the stocker is 55A?
