89 70hp Merc pulls to hard 2 left

hey all just installed this engine and it seems to run great ..only problem is, it seems to wanna hit the left hard while taking major effort to turn to the right(while moving) ....what would cause this? would it be that little white metal skig on the lower unit ive seen them turned differnt ways on other motors

First try getting the trim set. If it does not have tilt and trim, adjust that pin that goes through the holes that the motor comes down and rests on.

Sometimes the angle of the transom from one boat to another can be different and need a different setting.

If set correctly you may not even need to adjust the tab.

But, yes the tab can be moved slightly from side to side to effect, and correct a pull.

I believe it's turned slightly towards the side it pulls to.

Yeah, the little white trim tab is what you adjust to try and compensate for pulling.

You point the back of the trim tab in the direction the boat is pulling. In your case, boat's pulling to the left, adjust the trim tab so the back points to the left.

The trim tab is held on by one bolt which is accessed via a hole in the "leg" (center section aka exhaust tower), directly above the trim tab.

Your motor may or may not have a plastic plug covering the trim tab bolt hole. If it does, pry it out with a flat-bladed screwdriver.

Loosen the bolt, turn the trim tab and tighten the bolt back up.

That's about it, take 'er back out and see what the boat does.

Note if you have the trim tab all the way over and the boat still pulls, there may be other issues with the motor's setup on the boat or problems with the boat itself.

But the trim tab adjustment is a good place to start.
