I have a set of 87 and 89 carbs for my 89 evinrude. The 87's have metal float chambers and the 89's have plastic float chambers. I don't think the chambers can be switched but the carb kit will work for both sets. Would there be any problem rebuilding the set of 87's and just using them on my 89?

Thanks for any suggestions.

They crack because of overtightening the screws.
They'll either fit or they won't. I'd try it.
If not, just order new plastic bowls and don't crank the screws down as much, you only need to compress the gasket and thats not much.

The plastic float bowls were a nice idea gone bad. They deteriorated and warped with age-caused fuel leaks and can even contribute to engine failures. Overhaul your 87 carbs and use them-you will be fine.

Thank you both (emdsapmgr) and (jonesg) for your response.

I had never removed the chambers, they where cracked in the middle of the chambers. The 87's will bolt up on the 89's it's just that the inside of the chamber looks alot different. I will rebuild my 87's and use them.
Thanks.
