Long story short, i was towing someone in and slowly bumped over a log that i didn't see. Everything seemed to run fine afterwards until about halfway home, felt a vibration and the engine sputtered a little.
took it out today, sam thing, vibration and when running at about 3600 rpm the engine sputtered once. Normally i reach plane at about 2700 rpm and today it wouldn't reach till about 3500 rpm.
I looked at the prop when i got out and the little zinc anode fin about it was loose enough to move by hand left and right.
Turned the prop and it doesn't appear the prop shaft is bent but i know those things are hard to see.

what are ya'lls thoughts?

Could be a prop hub. Or could be one or more of the blades is bent out of phase with the others. A wet log won't leave marks like a rock.

Out of phase meaning not exactly centered between the other 2 which will cause a dynamic balance issue as well as hydraulic as the prop may now be pulling a little lop sided.

Re: 89 Alpha 1 issues

i should have noted that i have a Stainless Prop and it looks okay, no scratches, notches, nothing.

If the prop hub, underload should it spin at all if it is bad? What kind of work is involved with fixin that or would i be better off going and getting another prop assembly? That also doesn't explain the stutter in the motor. On the muffs the motor runs perfect, purrs like a kitten above 1000 rpm's and gurgles like a big cam top fuel dragster at idle.

Take off from a dead stop and nail it. Does it hesitate? Can you smell rubber burning?
It does sound like you spun the hub and it will only get worse to where it will barely go at all. You can get a SS prop rebuilt; but when I spun mine, I just bought a new prop and used the old one for decoration on my deck table...

Re: 89 Alpha 1 issues

I took the prop off tonight, i noticed inside when i slid it off there was some kind of rubbery grease stuff with particles of rubber in it. it was greyish/greenish in color with black rubber pieces. Not big pieces though, small like the size of a broke off pencil tip.

i do not notice the prop shaft off when spinning it by hand, but then that is by eye.

Re: 89 Alpha 1 issues

just did some quick searching around for the prop that i have.

I have a Quicksilver Thunderbolt QS5006X (48-13700A46) prop with the Mercury Flo-Torq II hub. If my prop has spun the hub, can i just replace the hub? they say you can do it yourself.
