Hello,
I have a 89 baylineer capri inboard/outboard L-drive motor 85horse. I am having the worst luck finding anything for this boat. I just tracked down a water pump for it, but I need the exhaust hose as well. I have been informed that parts for this boat are discontinued. Anyone know where I can get my hands on these parts?

Many of the parts for the engine and lower unit are common to the outboard version.

Many of the l drive parts are standard automotive parts.

Many parts are not available. sorry

Are you looking for the big exhaust hose that goes under the boat to the outdrive?

Merc only part, still available

Thanks a lot, actually I just found it and ordered it. I will definately keep you in mind for anything else though. Im sure replacing this hose and installing the water pump kit I just purchased should stop this boat from over heating, I hope!

What exactly are you looking for? The exhaust hose, or the pickup hose? On the L-drive, there's a hose that's about 1 inch around that connects the L-drive to the engine. This is the hose that brings water from the lower unit, to the engine.

I'm a thinkin' this is the one you want, right? The exhaust hose doesn't really do anything, but deliver the exhaust, and the warm water back to the lake.

If it IS the little hose, Mercury doesn't make it anymore -- my Brother-in-law went to an auto parts store, and picked one up for my boat. It works great -- he even saved me the part number, in case I needed another one.

Parts are still available, you just have to be willing to dig a little bit, and maybe go to unconventional suppliers.

Re: 89 Bayliner Capri

brlanha - same boat, same problem. I changed everything on this engine from thermostat to head and exhaust gasket with no luck. Pulled my motor last fall and just recently started to tear it down. There is a diversion? plate on the bottom of the engine that has a couple of 1" hoses running in and out of it - this plate is actually where your cooling water enters the engine. Mine had a chunk of rubber (from an old impeller I assume) stuck in one of the holes not allowing water to get up to the head.I hope this is my problem - you may be in the same boat if need to change impeller? There is also a small 1" hose on the outside (outdrive) of the motor you may want to look at - this also carries the cooling water up to your top end - good luck.

Well,
Thanks for the info..Im going to try to replace the water pump and hoses and see what happens. No luck, then Im going with your approach, and pulling the engine. I'll try to keep in touch with ya through the spring once I start this project. Im anxious to see if you solved your problem, hopefully I can solve mine.
