This motor overheated and wouldn't start or run well afterwords. the primary cause of the overheat was a clogged water intake. After inspection, the hard starting was caused by a bad choke solenoid.new water pump impeller and cooling lines are open. starts now and idles rough. Compression test is as follows with water in the middle and bottom cylinders. Top cyl. is 120 PSI., middle cyl.is 005 psi., bottom cyl.is 130 psi.. This sounds like a blown head gasket to me, what do you folks think. I won't have time to look at it till the weekend.

I must agree. Sorry. Take a good look at the piston as well.

Re: 89 DT 55 overheat

just to close this thread out. When the engine overheated, the head gasket went. The pistons were fine and i was able to get into it before it started to rust, but just barely.Compression is 128,130 and 130 .I've only been able to run it for 20 minutes or so since it was back together and on the lake but i believe i'm done with this little project. Thanks for the advice. Jerome
