i just picked up a nice evi 15, 1989. i wondered if i could swap out the ignition with my 82? it runs, but i have heard of horror stories on the under flywheel pp's. so i have this parts motor (in a box) that i could pull the ignition off, complete with flywheel, base timer/trigger, power pack, coils. if i do the change i figured if anything goes wrong i will have a easier time to find replacement parts. also if i do sell the motor, the next owner will have a exceptional running dependable motor.

also note, the plastic carbs are s**t! i have rebuilt this thing many times over and i still have idle issues. i install on of my spares (82) and she fires in half a pull, and just purrs like a kitten. anyone else have this issue?

thanks

As long as you change all of the components and don't mix and match, I'd say it would be fine.

I agree, as long as you change all of them. That said, I have a 92 that has the UFI, that I use for lake/river fishing, have thought about your situation, but as long as it is running, I think I will stick with what have. Maybe I will outlive it, only 76 now.

As for your carb, sounds like the plastic top is warped or has a crack at the idle adjustment threads.

I'd put the '82 stuff on it and get rid of that UFI. The prob with UFI was it built up to much heat under the flywheel causing componets to fail.

motor is low hours, and never been touched. i pulled the carb tp clean it, and i cant see any cracks and the cover looks flat ( i layed it accross glass to check for flatness ) i think the plastic carbs are poo!
