I have a Evinrude 40 '89. I have a problem that comes and gos. <br />When I try to start the motor. Turns over, has spark, compression, plug wet, try different tanks of gas. It may work find for monthes, then it will do this. When I lift the motor up to reach the plugs, I'll see some gas in the water. Like its flooded. Changed or clean and dry the plugs and still won't fire. Then come back later it may fire and run fine for weeks or month. It sounds just like when you try to start the motor with the safty clip not in place. The friend that works on our motor looked at it and fired right up every time. Checked all the switches and they worked fine. Also at times it will start then stop, then won't start. Plug set at .40.<br />Anybody have any ideas what to check now? Are thier any cleaners like STP that you use in car, that work on boat engines? Wondering if their dirt somewhere that make the choke stick or something else. <br />Also I mix the oil and gas, oil pump was unhooked when I got the boat years ago. <br /><br />Thank for any help <br />Barry
