New to bass boats, I was having trouble with triming out the motor and thought it was the tilit and trim not working properly. Checked it out in back in the shop and found that when the motor was trim out (not tilted) the motor was just coming up level with the boat. I noticed the jacking plate was laid back at the top, at a different angle than the transom. Can I remove the top two bolts with the engine supported and re-drill holes to move the plate more perpendicular to the transom. When I ran the boat it felt like it could have used a little more trim out. Will this cause other issues.

Re: 89 Evinrude jacking plate question

Evinrude did not make the jack plate. there are many companies that do, and different styles.

Pictures are a must in solving you problem, so we can completely understand what you have.

Sounds like you have a manual jackplate. Yes, some have option as far a negative or positive trim. If yours does not you can easily add wedges to gain positive trim, no problem. Some boats have transoms with excessive negative angles. Basically the issue could be with the plate or the transom but either is easily corrected.
