'89 Evinrude Starting Problems

I have a V6 200hp Evinrude that takes forever to cold start at the dock. It smokes alot initially and clears out. I have had to push the throttle full to get it to stay fired. Once it gets going however, it runs fine. I asked my mechanic about it and he said that I may be getting oil from the reservoir due to changes in temperature and it is mixing to rich on the cold start. Would appreciate any advice.

Need more info. What year motor? Are you using the VRO or mixing? What oil? What gas? How old? Most important -- what spark plugs?<br /><br />Good luck!
