Model # E150TXCEM

Helping a friend here and I need some help myself, since we don't have a manual (I know I know, get the damm manual).

Here's the question:
Looking from the boat towards the carbs, below the bottom carb, on the port side below the bottom carb, there is a hose (of some sort) coming out of the intake manifold. Now it is dissimilar to all the other hoses which are routed between the different intake manifolds (same manifold, but between different areas, i.e. near carb 1,2,3). This hose is of larger diameter than those other hoses. And it is not connected to anything and it must do something, what the heck is it, what does it do, and where does it go?

-Thanks
Andy

I think youre talking about the drain hose for the airbox base. It hooks between the airbox base and the intake. It just drains off excess fuel that puddles in the bottom of the airbox back into the motor.

Should go to a nipple on the back side of the air box.

That makes sense, the airbox was already off when i got there.

New Question:
Now that we got the thing running and idling well, I am going to bring over the compression gauge and see how the ol' ticker is doing. Is this a looper or crossflow (looper, right?). If it is a looper the compression values can be a bit low, right? If I was to see something like, mid 80's all across the board, this would be ok?

What years are crossflows and what years are the loopers?

Thanks again-
andy

That is a 1989 150 25" shaft. It is a crossflow. Those numbers are good. We dont look look for any certian number, we look at the difference. As long as they are within 15 lbs youre good to go.

The actual number has a lot to do with which heads and head gaskets are on the motor.

As to the particular numbers, I am in agreement with you. Much more important to have even compression rather than a certain valve.

The only reason I posted the question is that I've read many times on here that you (not you in particular) look for actual compression values on certain motors, which i never understood.

I will just continue judging by evenness rather than value as I always had.

-Thanks
Andy

Re: 89' Evinrude vro V6 150hp

We do look for certian numbers sometimes. But its when we know a given value on a given design and want to change something. Like acceleration or top end.

A lot of folks dont understand compression numbers (not compression ratio) on a two stroke. Sometimes when we want to improve performance we raise the exhaust port. That can actually lower the static compression numbers although we've gained performance.

But in the context of stock, as produced motors like we have here we'll just look for even numbers across both banks. They make so many different heads for those motors it would be hard to say to look for a certian number. I think you'll find the motor runs just fine.

Your engine (new)would run between 90-95 lbs compression. Be sure to take all 6 of the plugs out when you do the compression check. The engine will turn over faster and will gain compression readings. You may want to run a can of OMC engine tuner through the engine.
