I have a 1989 force 125 outboard model# 1254X9B. I finally got on a big lake where I can open it up and when I did I noticed the voltage gage going from 13v to 19v at about 4800 rpm, if I stop and shut the motor down and then restart it returns to13v and will remain there until I get on it again. I do notice if I use the tilt motor you can see a slight dip in the high voltage reading but than it remains high when under high speed. Is this normal?

It is normal because that charging system doesn't have a voltage regulator. Just make sure you are using a lead-acid NON-MAINTENANCE FREE battery. Or you can also replace the rectifier with a universal voltage rectifier with regulator.

On the Sticky Post under FAQ there's a thread about over voltage and recommended repairs or solutions.
