First before i get into the issues does anyone know where i could find the foam lining that goes in the shroud.. think i spelled that wrong but u know. When i bought the boat it was all rotten so i ripped it out before it caused damage but now i'm trying to find some new stuff to make her a bit quieter.

Also The lower end pivots back and fourth. when you pull and push on it. I thought it was a feature of the engine to prevent it from trimming to high because it gets to a certain point and wont push any more. My Father said he has never seen anything like that in his life and didn't have any answers. I had another guy at the Marina look at it for two seconds and say "yep gotta be the motor mounts I can fix that for 1500 bucks" is he messin with me? is it possible to tighten anything myself? I'm trying to find a manual for the engine but all I can seem to find online are ones that do all Chrysler and Force from the 50's up and i don't want all that. HEELLPP thanks for taking the time I'm just having some issues and could really use some advice with this project

1500 bucks is out of sight for a lower motor mount replacement. At say 100 bucks an hour plus parts, it would take a serviceman about two hour's work so 300 bucks would be more like it.

Upper motor mounts do not frequently get broken and they require complete removal of the powerhead to change. Thus, A much higher labor charge. Unless you can actually see that the rubber has separated from the aluminum plates and they have indeed failed, do not change them.

Yes, it is your lower motor mount that has broken but the part costs about 100 bucks and you can do it yourself. It is not the most pleasant job but still do-able with only hand tools.

As for the foam liner--bravo for you. It almost always disintegrates and removal is the only option. You can use almost any closed cell foam glued with contact cement or leave it out. The engine will be only slightly noisier without it. I use those closed cell foam yoga mats that normally retail for 15-30 bucks. However, I get them on sale for 4 bucks otherwise I would find something cheaper.

While the photos I have posted above for reference are from a Chrysler engine, ALL three, four, and five cylinder engines use the same midleg and motor mount system. There will be only minor differences.

Thank you soo much!! ohh my mind has been put at such ease today lol.. let me tell you.. well i'm sure you know how frustrating it can be. And thank you so much for the yoga mat idea. I actually won one at a golf tournament last year and its just sittin in the garage. I had no idea lol. cut er out and slap er on. it wont melt?? I don't know much about it. I was worried that it was the upper motor mounts but when i can get er apart i'll know more i hope. after i find a manual. I will keep updated because i know i'll have more questions lol

Good idea on the foam mats.Try a bit of gas on a corner before you glue it in place.
It might melt from the fumes.
These motors leak unburned gas/oil when tilted.J

hey while i'm here, I'm tryin to take the lower unit off. someone backed into my boat or hit it with something i'm not sure but there is a bit whole right through up above the gears. anyway i'm trying to take it off so it can get welded but I don't have a clue what I'm doing and my manual not going to be here for a few weeks. Is it fairly simple just certain bolts i'm missing or do i need to do a major in there

There's a hidden bolt if you haven't found it. You have to take the exhaust snout off to get to it. Remember to disconnect the shift linkage pin on the front side of the lower unit.
