Hey guys. I've been on here a few times with questions about this Arriva with 150 Force outboard bought a few years ago. Here is another one cause I am stumped. Those of you who I have talked to know I'm not very familiier with this stuff and have been learning as I go but this may be bad.

I'll post other problems later but as for right now I think there is a major.

cylinder 1 has 0 compression
cylinder 2,3,4 have 150 compression
cylinder 5 had about 50lbs

not sure if the boat has been like this for awhile and i've just been masking it while jacking up the idles or who knows what. Can anyone tell me if i can fix this or if she's toast??

Looks like you're going to at least have to take the head off to inspect the cylinders and pistons.

The first and most obvious thing to do now is to remove the head and inspect the cylinders and head gasket. Depending upon what you find, you may need something as simple as a new head gasket or you may need to rebuild the engine, boring one or more cylinders and installing oversized pistons.

Thanks guys. seems a bit over my skill set. hard to find anyone around here willing to work on the old Force which is why i've been trying this myself but don't really have the time. guess i will keep searching. sounds like it could get pretty costly though.. arrgggg

1. Where is "around here"?
2. It is not beyond your skills to remove a head or even rebuild. You just need to follow instructions given on the forum.
3. It also is not terribly expensive if you do the work yourself. Yes, the parts will have some cost associated with them but usually, labor is the most costly item.

First thing I would do is spray a little oil or PB Blaster in the spark plug holes and recheck compression. If compression stays the same then you have a blown gasket or worst, a crack somewhere. If it increases, then you have wore out piston rings which means the best thing to do is rebuild the engine. I would expect no change on #1 because it's rare for piston rings to have 0 compression; possible but rare
