Hello guys, I'm back I had to take a brake from working on my boat - I got burnt out. I've started working on it now and need help.
89 force 50 hp I need to replace exhaust Gaskets. Ontario - Southern California (inland empire) Please help me with instructions on how to do it. Any special tricks anything to watch out for anything I should not do.

You guys told me to remove the bottom end to make it easier. Anything to watch out for when I do that?

I will replace some seals and gaskets on the carb also. Will I mess up my timing in anyway when I do this?

I'm thinking of only removing what I must to lessen the work - example - leaving the stator on with wires attached to the plate and hold plate to motor.

Help!!

Go to this page.look for #6 this will need to be taken off and the lower cover removed.
It can be a pain.
The lower doesn't need to be removed but, it will make it easier to remount the head if it has been taken off.
The flywheel doesn't need to come off so the trigger won't be moved. The timing shouldn't be affected.
I used the screw holes on the top of the flywheel to adapt a lifting ring.
I think the holes are 1/4:20 and the sell a 1/4:20 eye bolt to use as a lifting ring.

Good morning Jerry! I just read your response. I already removed the flywheel yesterday along with the coil packs and the starter. Disconnected the ign coil too.
DISCOVERY:
my model is a H0507X89B : The lower starter bracket was off cuz the screw came lose and the upper bracket ended up braking - I had already replaced it once with a used one.
Also I noticed one 1 of the 4 screws holding the stator was lose "again" which is what made it short and burn last time. Also I found that the small hose bracket or clamp holding the fuel line at the carburetor was lose after I replaced it with a new one.
So obviously things are coming lose.
I tend to brake things cuz I over tighten "everything" - "always" but I made sure these things were normally tight.
Should or can I use threadlock? The blue kind? On what? I've bought nuts with the plastic insert to prevent looseness but I want to make sure things don't come lose again and more money and time is needed. Please help.

Eddie I would use the blue for sure! It is for aluminum and magnesium so it is more forgiving on those alloys.

Not around yesterday.
Yes use the blue even the red will work.
Silly cone will work in a pinch.

Thanks guys - went out got blue red and even green and different hose clamps - tha kind you don't need to screw and nuts with nylon or plastic inside for vibration and have been putting on that spray to losen the nuts.
I have the nut holding the cowling - the one you see from out side and it's exactly where water leaks out the most - that one looks horribly rusted and corroded - what would be the best approach so I won't brake it off? Heat or listening spray and easy loosening or both???? Help!!!!!

Spray, heat, spray and then some more heat.
It makes it expand and allows the spray to penetrate the screw.

Re: 89 Force 50 HP- HELP exhaust gaskets replacement

Need help guys - I was able to losen up all bolts - now I'm trying to pull out the motor and I can not do it. Something is preventing me from pulling it out. I already removed the lower leg with the shaft. It seems that there is some sort of exhaust pipe that goes into the mid leg that touches as I wiggle it and try to pull it out. Also I don't know if the water pipe just pulls out but mine is out now that I tried to pull the motor.
I don't know if there is an extra bolt in the front beneath the carburetor . Do I need to dismantle the mid leg? I'm stuck please help you guys please!

I think it's like 7 bolts that holds the head on.
There is probably sillycone used to seal the block to the base.
You'll need to break the seal and the head should come off.
The water tube on the 50 just pulls out.

There is a shockmount rubber behind a plate under the carb (at the powerhead). You have to remove the two bolts in the center of the plate. You can even loose the four bolts that are in each corner of the plate.
The shockmount is connected to the middleg.

Re: 89 Force 50 HP- HELP exhaust gaskets replacement

Help - I'm confused and frustrated- the head is lose from the plate it sits on. I have lifted the head about an inch and a half. There is two screws in the sides that stick out of the cowling, I removed those two rusted nuts and still won't come out.
I'm confused on what two bolts on the center Nordin is talking about. Do I remove the carb completely? Will I see it then? What plate is Nordin specifically talking about? Should I post a picture of that specific area and maybe it wil help? What about the exhaust pipe I'm talking about being stuck to the head?
This is all that is holding me from pulling the head out and changing the exhaust gaskets - please help
