My 89 Johnson V6 (150 hp) is only firing on two cylinders. I suspect the power pack but can not get any resistance off the sensor coils.
The charge coils read 868 & 871. The Seloc manual that I have states that all V6's have two power packs, but I only have one. The power pack is a 113-3865
and the stator R583853. I am checking the sensor coil from D to A then D-B,D-C. I show no shorts to grd. but zero Ohms between the leads.
Please Help - I NEED to go fishing.

Thanks
Dan

Dan....you need a really sensitive meter to read ohms across the timer base coils.

I could see one coil going out and maybe more in some catastrophic melt down. But to have four outta six go at once just don't seem right.

I believe your power pack is at fault. And yes you only have one. OEM PN 583865. The number you posted is a Rapair part number.

If you have a peak reading volt meter, try reading the output of each timer base coil. Should be 2.5 volts or better.

And you should get an OEM service manual if your a do-it-yourselfer. Lots more specific info on your engine.

And finally, try and keep your posts together. Makes it easier for us to follow.

Thanks and Good Luck.

I agree, guessing at parts can get expensive, but with a good manual and some mechanical and electrical knowledge you can replace most any 2 parts and still come out cheaper than using a dealership repair department.

If you know what each wire does. You dont need any test equipment. You can swap wire and see if the problem follows or doesnt change. The most common failure on that engine is the power pack. Most stator failures will have the epoxy dripping from them. You can swap the stator wire is see if the problem stays or changes. Or swap coil output wires for cd output. If you know what wire are for its an easy solution.
