89' Johnson 70 hp stalls from hole when pulling

I have an '89 Johnson 70 hp that runs great most of the time. If however I am trying to pull my son on skis, it will stall when I 'Hit it'.

This will also happen if I sit idling for a few minutes then put it into gear. When I try to go, it will stall when I apply throttle. Conversely, if I pull the throttle back or put it back in neutral, it often recovers and will continue to run.

My suspicion is air fuel mixture but with 3 carbs, I wouldn't know where to start.

Any help is appreciated,
Kelly

Have you had the carbs off from the motor recently? If so, it sounds like you may need to do a "link and synch" adjustment. Do you have the service manual for that motor or can you get a copy from your dealer? I don't think the problem will be expensive, it's probably just a couple of adjustments,ie; timing, needle valves etc.

Thanks oldcatamount

I picked up the motor this summer from a hobby mechanic who does complete rebuilds on the OMC's that have oil injection failure. This one was a trade he received so I don't believe he did much work on it. It never experienced the common fate of a failing VRO.

I have no manual but suspect also that the carbs need an adjustment based on timing/ air fuel mixture when hitting it from low speed idle.
