OK merc guys... I am having a hell of a time trying to get this boat to idle and take off right. I think i hit a point where it works with a lousy idle and pretty much no hole shot whatsoever, but I want it to be 100% before i can truly enjoy myself out on the lake. I have adjusted the throttle linkage and trigger out on the water with poor results. It either bogs worse than before or just the same. I thought it was the timing a while ago and someone told me that timing doesn't just fall out of place, and that makes sense. But I have read something about an idle stabilizer box that could be bad? Or people just removing it? Do you guys think this would help me, or do I have another problem? This motor is really pushing me to my breaking point, but I cannot get rid of it because of the expense of a new motor of its size. Thanks a ton guys

Disconnect the idle stabilizer. Some people are really adamant about removing it entirely and throwing it in the river and you can do that to work out some aggression issues if you like. Time the motor to get 22-23 degrees max timing at WOT . Then adjust the idle timing to get 750 ish RPM at idle in gear. The degree number doesnt matter at idle. The RPM does. Make sure your throttle plates are closed at idle.

If you want to get real fancy you can degree each cylinder and time them running at full advance to get max timing of 25 degrees on the highest reading cylinder and run premium gas for some more off idle and mid range power.

thanks wired...can I disconnect this thing and not time it, and just use it like that? I ask because i need to get a timing light and research how to time it a lot more, if I can take it off with results I'll do that in the meantime.
