89 mercury 25 hp leaking oil question

I went salmon fishing the other day on the columbia river for 7 hrs. and I have to maintain above idle speed trolling to keep up with the river . The question is , When we were finished for the day and got back to the shor I tilted the motor up and oil came out of i believe the carburator area. Is this normal after a good days use . It has happened once or twice before but the motor runs and idles fine . I just thought because of the speed i have to maintain it is just a build up of unused oil or I am to rich . Any help or ideas woul be greatful .

I've never heard of that happening before....did you give the motor a good run on the way back to shore? How long of a ride and how fast?

did a full throttle run on the way back to shore to clean the motor out . All day ran fine and still does

Premix or injected?...Could be leaking fuel and pooling.Remember gas evaporates leaving oil behind to take the wrap.
If injected check all oil lines are tight and in good nic.

I was gonna say check all the lines Yamaha is notrious for leaking oil lines i don,t know about the smaller mercury,s though

So, is that a 2-stroke or 4-stroke? I'm not sure 4-stroke technology is that old but 4-strokes can out-perform 2-strokes when it comes to long durations of idle speeds. 2-stokes tend to get carbon deposits when you run at idle speed too long. Best bet would be to use half a can of Seafoam in your gas tank every few tankfuls if you plan to continue doing that (if its a 2-stroke).

How's the fishing in the Columbia river? Much salmon? Sizes?

Thanks for the info . The fishing has been poor and I got skunked . The river is high and warm so I kinda expected it.

By the way the motor is a 2 stroke . so I deal with premix
