I just bought a boat with a 89 OMC KING COBRA, And I'm looking for info on this motor. I do know my stuff about small block chevys but now I'm trying to find out what OMC has here. Any ideas on preformance upgrades ? I was thinking about building a 383 stroker..

Where do I go to get specs on the motor ? Compression, cam specs, ect.......

Thank you ...
PS: 89 Beretta Phaser 230

hello
you may try telling us what motor you have now. OMC used quite a bit of 460 fords in those years. as far as building a stroker hodrod motor save your money for a new 8.1L. :) :)
good luck and keep posting

You can still get the original OMC shop manuals from Evinrude/Johnson dealers, they are better than aftermarket and about the same price. Start there...
BTW, I have heard that they had trouble keeping the dog clutch Cobras together with the big blocks, so you might want to leave well enough alone!

I would suggest that you spend some time in the water with your new boat and get ideas about how much faster you need it to be.

Certainly the 350 engine has a universe of aftermarket (including marine) stuff to make it faster. But, you should learn what you have, including the sometimes problematic King Cobra, before planning major investments.
