89 Seadrive 140hp - continuous beep with key on

With a cold or warm engine, when I turn on the key I get a quick chirp, and then after 10-20 seconds a continuous beep.

Is it just reminding me that I left the key on, or is the overheat alarm shorted out?

It sounds like it's a shorted wire or a bad sensor. The test "chirp" is normal when the key is turned on but if your getting a sold beep right after start up it may be a bad temp sensor in one of the heads or a bad sensor in the oil tank. disconnect the tan wire to each of these one at a time while the buzzer is buzzing and see what happens.

So I disconnected the tan wire from the buzzer and it was still buzzing with the key on. Looks like I will be replacing the buzzer.
