hey out there i,m new here!! i'm long time certfied autotrans,and diesel tech(ford). done my share of eng. and trannys, but this is my first outboard overhaul. i have a 89 champion with a 175 merc,a magnet come loose on the flywheel and took out the stator. havent had the craft long and seemed a little weak to only run about 45-50. took compression reading 57-62psi on all six. When running eng.it was quiet and solid sounding,i've removed the heads to inspect ,there is on scoring but the two center cyl. have a few very small pit mark asif some thing went though the cyl.and some hone marks are still noticable. I've been told i can do the rering without removing the power head. What risk is there in contaminating the lower crank bearing,and can i reuse the piston?? in info would be a great help THANKS...
