sooooooo I'm getting VERY close to getting my project on the water and I have a question.

I know there are a few others on here (or formerly on here) with the same boat.
I sent out a few pm's but got no replies. I'm wondering what speed others have achieved and with what engines and props? I'm especially curious about those that have twin 260's

Also I have not made it to a scale yet so if anyone has weighed one I'd love to know those results too.

been doing a fair bit of searching on the www ..... all I can find is twin 4.3's... seems folks are getting 35-40 with them.

Re: 89 WELLCRAFT MONTE CARLO performance

There's one at my club that rafted next to me this past summer. Not sure if his performance but I could possibly ask.

My 29 x 10.8 boat with twin 270 hp inboards did 35. Says 9500 lb dry weight. Figure your boats a bit lighter, stern drives and similar power I'd say into the lower 40s!

Yes mine has Vdrives, which is why I would assume your sterndrives are probably more efficient.

My boat on paper is 28'8 minus the platform and pulpit, by 10'8" wide, so they are reletively close in size. That 7300 sounds about right, but of course dry weight and actual weight vary by quite a bit. How much fuel does the Wellcraft hold?

I would have to imagine your going to cruise in the mid 20s, and you won't have any issues getting or staying on plane, even with a ton of friends, family and gear. A lot of 27-29' cruisers are powered well enough with twin 4 and 6cyls. Having the V8s your boat should perform very well.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

My Cruisers is about the same size (28ft (32ft OA) x 9.5ft) with twin 5.7's, but I have duo-props.
The best speed I've seen is about 46-47mph but you could just about watch the fuel gauge go down.

For weight, on the trailer I'm slightly north of 12,000lbs loaded up to launch.

Slightly different boat (mine) but fairly close...

27' 4" with a 9' 4" beam, Dry weight 7400. I also have a 110 gallon tank and was carrying about 75 gallons and 3 passengers weighing in at 600 lbs (altogether, not each :) ). I'm propped about right- at WOT I'm right in the middle of V-P's recommended rpm range. I hit 36 mph, so 40 and a bit isn't unrealistic with 260's.

My .02

Hopefully the OP will be interested, too. Can I ask what brand and model of props you went with? How did performance compare before and after? I'm leaning strongly in that direction (4 blade).

Quicksliver props, no longer remember the spec. 21-17 i think, the four blade has less slip, better performance than the 3 blade, can cut back to cruise to just under 3000 rpm and stay on plane. with some trim 2800rpm, at wot and just a touch of lower unit trim this rig just flies.

Re: 89 WELLCRAFT MONTE CARLO performance

I have acquired a michigan wheel 17" 4 blade... at some point I'm gonna try it on one engine... If I like it I'll get another.... my boat runs out great but needs stern lift bad.... holeshot is good at wot but to ease up onto plane is an exercise in star gazing lol
