Spent a year rebuilding my skiff with the help of this forum- thanks iboats guys. Did not have any experience with motors, so I took my 40 hp, 1989, yam, 2-stroke, oil injected to a shop so I could get out on the water with confidence. The shop put in a new fuel pump and rebuilt the carbs, put in a new impeller etc.. Everything ran great for first two days on the water, other than the wrong type of prop. Then, I was going down the river on a plane when the engine just died. It did not back off in rpms, but rather just stopped. After a few tries it restarted easily, but would die when put into gear. After a few attempts I got it into gear, but it sounded like it would die if I let off the throttle. It would not throttle back up to high speed either. Got back to my dock by not letting it idle and was able to start and run for flushing. It did not want to completely idle when flushing, but I used neutral throttle lever to give it a little extra that it needed to stay running- at most 2000 rpms. The next day it would not start at all. No leaking fluids. Charged batteries. Different fuel line. The starter is turning strong, but it will not fire. The impeller it turning and is peeing a strong stream of water when the starter is engaged. The boat is currently on my neighbor's boat lift, no rush but hard to access elevated over the water. What is the next thing I should try? Going to give it another shot this weekend and take pix if needed. Thanks for your help gentlemen.
