I have been having trouble with the water pump in my 8 hp motor. When starting it for the season last year it would'nt pump water it burned out and again this year it did the same thing. Any Ideas why? I'm using muffs on the lower unit when starting it. And is there any special trick to putting the new water pump in? Any in put will be great.

The muffs aren't getting on good seal on the intake screen. Use the factory flusher instead....The method used to put in a water pump kit varies with the brand of the engine.
