Hello mabey you all can help
iI have a 1968 sportswin 9.5 evinrude and i have done many thing to the eng(new pointsand condenser, carb rebuild kit, warter pump, and fuel filter.

The problem still seams to be running slow. it just dosnt seam run at full speed and it sounds like it isnt runn full out
ive adjusted it (I think i did it right) by the directions in the clymer shop manual.

the other thing is that the rich lean screw dosnt seam to have any affect on the running of the motor

also when i adjusted everything i dont rember what point the rich lean mixture was set would that have a effect on the speed thing?

The high speed jet is behind and in line with the drain plug at the bottom of the float bowl where it can easily be clogged. If you take out the drain plug you can blow air or carb cleaner through it from the small hole at the outside base of the choke bowl (look closely and you will find it).

Use the search button above and look for "9.5 lean" you will find lots of info.

One other thought: while running, ease your choke out a just a little, if the speed picks up, you are probably running too lean.

On any 2-stroke cylinder/piston ring ear allows combustion gasses to leak into the crankcase. This leans out the incoming charge and reduces power.
If the wear becomes to great the carb adjustments can't enriched the mixture enough to compensate. Only a bore and piston job will make it right.
A compression test will tell you when it's time to rebuild.
Charlie

Is your prop the proper size? A too large prop can cause that problem, have you changed the prop since you've had it?

Well Knobby you were right I switched the props and it seamed to make a differance but know i need to know nore about props mine (one dosnt run as fast ) is a 8.2 size x9 deg pitch faster prop was a 8 1/8 x 8 pitch.

now heres my problem if the 8 inch pitch ran faster than the 9 inch pitch would a 7 inch run faster or does it need to be matched to the motor witch is a evinrude 9.5
