I am replacing the seals in the gearcase and have it figured out except for:
-How do you remove the shift shaft bushing to replace the o-ring under it? Looks like its in there to stay.
-Should I be using some kind of sealer or gasket maker on the long seal where the bottom part of the case goes on? There was stuff on there when I took it apart.

The easiest way to remove the bushing for the drive shaft seal [o-ring] is to tap the bushing for around three turns and use a hard screw to pull it.

You can also drive the bushing out from below but you will need to use a small awl or large sail needle to remove the old o-ring first.

If you are very patient, you can remove the old o-ring without pulling the bushing, working a new one in with two dowels by oiling and folding the new o-ring.

The spaghetti seal between the gearcase halves requires a gasket sealer that is not affected by the oil and heat. 3M Scotchgrip 847 works, it replaced Sealer 1000.
