9.5 Johnson Year Dilemma

I bought a 9.5 this evening. I would like to know the year of the motor, but the manufacture plate is missing from it. In addtion, I do not see the silver thing about the size of quarter on the engine that has model number stamped on it. There appears to be a place on top of engine where such a plate would fit, though. It has the original green paint on the shaft, which makes me think that it is 69 to 73 model. Did they have a different color scheme from 64 to 68? Any way to verify the model year w/o the usual markers? There are all sorts of numbers on various engine parts, but they appear to be casting numbers. I would like to date this thing for two reasons, curiosity and obtaining parts. Thanks.

If you could post a pic that would help a bit.

I call it as a 1967 by the light green paint and big fuel pump.

Re: 9.5 Johnson Year Dilemma

I shall dub it a 1967 then, unless there is further input from the sea of boaters out there. Thanks for the help. I like the squatty look of the motor. It shall reside beside my 1972 6 HP Rude Boy.
