9.5 weak spark

well, I started, finally, checking out the second motor in my lot of 4. I found that I do have spark but that it is very weak. It wont even jump a gap on a plug. I had a friend pull on it while I had a screwdriver in the s/p boot and got a zap. then I set the screwdriver next to a ground and could see a very small spark. what is the usual culprit for this? I was thinking condensers because it seems like they are not storing enough power to make a good arc. any info would be great. also I'm still wondering if motor mounts are available for these 9.5s I cant find them online. thanks.

Re: 9.5 weak spark

I cleaned the points already and I never thought about the wires, I guess they might have some resistance to them and not let enough current through them, I should be able to check with a ohm meter and get a zero reading if they are good right? I think they visually look OK. I was just thinking that they were probably good because they are getting a spark.

wires have good continuity and I put new condensers in and no change. must be either coils or points right? let me know what you think.

clean and regap the points making sure there is no dirt inbetween them. that is cheap and does not cost anything. if no spark then check coils.

I think your right about the coils, I already cleaned the points and checked the gap, everything else seems ok. I will try coils tonight.
