I aquired this 9.8 (serial number sticker missing) that is in mint pristine condition. It just sat in some old folks garage for years. It is a 70's model with the tail in the back and brass fittings on the fuel line hose. The hose are as stiff as steel and the brass fitting on the fuel pump is leaking. What is a good way to replace those brass fittings with something more reliable? I'm sure replacement hose and fittings are not even available or are they? I also replaced the impeller and all I get is a small spit once in a while out the tell tale hose when tested in a tank.

When I redo an old mercury I replace all the fuel lines and the fittings, I get the fitting from NAPA. I also use real fuel line inside the motor and all the way to the tank.

Whenever I need a part for my Mercurys I try a dealer first. If the fuel is leaking out of the brass fitting undo it and check for the rubber insert, those connections are compression fittings and if they are tight won't leak my dealer carries those inserts and sometimes the fuel pump parts (which should be replaced).
There's a company that has all those parts - do a search.

40 year old motor, the fuel lines are shot, not sure factory fuel lines are available. I would bet with a little tugging you could break every fuel line in the motor.

Yes, Yes, Yes, Fuel lines are shot, I will try NAPA and maybe the fuel pump does need rebuilding as it was not getting fuel. I thought it was the air leak in the line, we will see. Outboard parts company wants $38 just for one line and the rest of them are "Not Available".

If you want to replace the lines with the same fittings Johnsoldmercury website in the buy/sell/trade area you can get exact replica fuel lines but you have to pay to be a member for access. Having an old mercury it is a good investment to be a member.
