I picked up a nice little 70 model 9.9 at a yard sale the other day with an extra partial engine to boot for parts. I put the good one in a barrel and it started on the third pull. After it ran a short while it started running on one cyl. I pulled the wire off the plug and it sparked against the engine block, I switched plugs and the same cyl was missing. I put a spark tester on the suspect wire and it would only spark if you nearly closed the gap on the tester. I then pulled the flywheel and inspected the wire and coil to the non-firing cyl and it didn't look good. It looks to be arching near where the wire goes into the coil. I pulled down the parts motor and both coils look like they have been replaced lately. I am an auto mechanic and I would like to know how to take just the suspect coil and wire off the parts motor and put it on the good motor without rmoving anything that may be timing related. The coil is under the flywheel and looks like it should slide off the whatever you call it that its mounted on. It almost looks like it slides on and there are some thin shims wedged in between. That don't seem right to me but I work on cars. Can someone help a guy out? Thanks, Chris
