I took the boat out a few weekends ago with a few friends and it was fun, caught a lot of fish. This weekend I wanted to go fishing but everyone was to busy so I decided to go alone. I started going and the boat started to plane like crazy. I changed the tilt on the motor and I was still planning. The boat is a Discovery aluminum boat and is pretty light weight, I can't WOT the boat because I just gets airborne and weee.

Anyone else ran into this situation? I know I was planning a lot better with the extra bodies on the boat but when I'm alone... meh. Thinking about putting weights in the front of it or something.

Options I see are large cement anchor up front + all gear, live Bait tank up front, Smart-tabs trimtabs, bow mount trolling motor with batteries up front.... hydra-foil might help a little if anything... Maybe a extension on the tiller so you can sit further up in the boat...

Do you mean porpoising? Planing is when it levels out and goes fast. Porpoising is the front going up and down.

Throw some weight up into the bow and see how it does. I have 100+# of stuff in the middle of my 14' john and it balances out nice.

They actually make tiller extension handles so you can sit further away that are safer than a broom handle ;)

do you have a trolling motor? a deep cycle battery up front will keep the nose down.

Or I could trade you for my 6HP Johnson........ :D
