9.9 force outboard leaking gear oil from hole

hi all, im new to theses forums and generaly new to boats and outboard motors i recently purchased a force 9.9 nice motor runs great like new but it seeps what i think is gear oil out of small hole above cavatation plate any help on what this hole is and what this problem could be would be greatly appreciated thanks to all replies

Probably unburned gas/oil.
Drain your oil and see if there is any water or off colored oil.

If there is no water in the gear case lube, you can also pressure check the gear case to confirm it is sealed properly. You will also see if the oil and water is mixing in the leg of the motor and then leaking out the hole. THis is how I determined that the oil/water mix (tan in color) I was seeing coming from one of the gearcase mounting holes was actually 2cycle oil / gas that was bypassing a defective / broken ring on one of the pistons. Compression check confirmed that the cylinder had a problem. You can read the rest of the info on the thread "Rebuild a 1988 Force 50". Good luck, buckwheat34

Gear oil has a very distinctive smell. Once smelled always known.

thank you for replies after looking into it more i beleive it is unburned 2 stroke oil coming out of a run off draining port thanks again
