My 2011 9.9 hp manual start motor would always start on the first pull, run and idle great. Recently, it would start and run fine. After I killed it with the 'off' switch and let it sit, it wouldn't start --not even hit, but would start later. Now, it won't start at all. I removed the plugs and squirted a bit of starting fluid into the cylinders, and it still doesn't hit. I'm thinking I have a defective 'on-off' switch. Could this be the problem? If so, how do I easily check the switch?

stop using ether on your motor.

you can easily check the switch by disconnecting the one lead that goes to ground. if the motor starts, your switch is bad. to kill the motor, you will have to touch the lead back to where you pulled it off of.

then of course, you could simply put an ohm meter between the two connections on the switch.

2 stroke starting fluid is called Sea Foam. Most all auto parts stores carry it. Red and white pint can, about $7 at WM. It has mineral oil which is necessary for 2 stroker lube. Works in your gas tank too to solve fuel related problems.
