9.9 Johnson. Does this look right?

I needed to replace the lower unit on my 1977 9.9 Johnson long shaft. Found a 1985 LU with short shaft on eBay pretty cheap. The guy sold lots of motor parts and was parting out this motor.

I did not need his short shaft since I was re-using my long shaft. However, when I pulled his the end looked odd to me. The splines to the pinion gear looked twisted. I insatlled mine and it ran fine and shifted better than my '77.

Question is does this look right or was it hit hard. Direction of rotation seems right for that. I recently saw a shaft on eBay that looked just like this. So, is this the way it is or is this junk? Hate to throw it out if it's worth something.

Once it's got this twist throw it away as it has been weakened. I know I wouldn't buy it.

Sure hit something really hard !!----I would be looking at the gears after seeing that sort of thing.

Thought it was not supposed to look like this. What would be the purpose? I asked him if he had the prop to sell and he said NO. May have been trashed really bad.

I know you have to be carefull on eBay but when I saw a shaft in the same condition AND THE SAME YEAR AND HP.......I just had to ask. I only paid $100 for the whole LU and took a chance thinking some parts would be useable. Like I said, shifts better than the one I had.
