9.9 johnson power loss

Hi,<br />I have a 1981 johnson 9.9 hp that cuts off at half throttle or higher.It does not do this when its choked halfway and runs smoother with the choke half way out also.Im thinking that it needs either a carb cleaning or a carb overhaul.Any help would be great.<br /><br />thanks in advance<br /> -steve-

You wont do any harm by cleaning up the carb, su90, but unless that is the problem you wont do any good either.<br /><br />Your description says it is not getting enough fuel at higher rpms.<br /><br />It is a lot easier to check your tank vent, restrictions or air leaks in the fuel line and pickup and the fuel pump output.<br /><br />Good luck.
