Hi guys. I searched the forum but couldn't find any threads from the words I used.

My 9.9 Johnson is rocking back and forth when hooked to the transom. Hard for me to explain so I took some video of it for you to see. Any ideas of what this is caused from? I need to buy the parts before heading the cabin again for July. Thnx.

Here is the links to the 2 vids I took:

Your rubber motor mounts are shot. Not a simple repair.

Re: 9.9 johnson rocking back and forth from transom clamp

Thanks Mr. FR. I have now searched "replacing motor rubber motor mounts" and yes...I see that many people have said this is a heck of a job.

I'll give it a go though and as I have not seen any guides to doing this I will take photos and document it along the way. I'll do my best to create a noobs guide to replacing motor mounts on the johnson 9.9. Sounds like a common problem on these old motors.

The engine checks out everywhere else (except the grip/arm side of the throttle gearing which I'm guessing now went because the motor head was rocking back and forth more than it should for the last 10 years which eventually rounded out the gearing set...easy fix.), and the family has owned it since new, so were going to keep it.

For any outboard mechanics who may be reading what would your estimate be to replace these rubber motor mounts? We are in the boonies at a camp but we may take it to winnipeg to get fixed next time we go.

Best Regards,

Ryan.
