I have a 2000 Yamaha 9.9 long shaft kicker that I have as a back up motor on my 20' Privateer. It seems to be running too cool at idle.I thought the thermostat was supposed to stay shut until it reached 140 degrees ? I can keep my finger on the exhaust jacket or anywhere else on the head for any amount of time.Certainly MUCH longer than the 3 second rule.I'm thinking the t stat is stuck open.
I just picked up a new t stat for my 75 Yamaha Enduro which had a t stat stuck in the open position.I had to work on the 75's t stat because the hot light was coming on and I found the t stat was stuck open and it was packed shut with salt/sedimentation.This is a salt water motor.TIA.
