1996 mariner 2 stroke. I started this process some months ago, first by sitting down and looking up the parts numbers for both motors, the intake, reeds, pistons, rings, power heads, midsections, and carbs and ever thing matched with one exception the main jet in the carb, so I ordered a brand new carb for a 15 hp. Now that the boat is home for the winter I will be changing the carb out for next season and I hope it will add a but to it. Just wondering if any one else had done the same conversion.

Re: 9,9 to 15 hp conversion

I got the boat splashed today and did a short test run and while it was on last years gas it did have some improvement. The motor its self ran very smooth, much better in fact than it was at the 9.9 rating. It picked up 1 mph and around 300 rpm`s and that's about what I expected. Thought I would post the results.

EDIT.. I should add that I have one of the rare mariner/mercury 9.9 motors that is a de-tuned 15 hp. Very few can be converted.
