I am considering buying a 1981 9.9 hp Johnson. I was wondering if it is possible to convert it into a 15. I have heard that you can switch the carburetor in some of the earlier models. Any thoughts? Thanks

Brent

Yes you can and you might need to add a tuned exhaust tube inside the motor leg and some of the newer models also require a different reed valve and induction manifold...depends on the year...I think with the 81 you can get away with jus the bigger carb

Brent
Why not just buy a 15hp instead. I have herd the Carb not cheap. Also if you buy a unit newer than 86 will get 15hp at prop instead of 15hp at power head.
