For the life of me I can't get that bar out of the trim adjustment holes. It's just too rusted.

PB Blastered it, tried my 5# mini sledge. Now what? I wouldn't really care about it, except the trim is all the way down and slowing my rate of progress.

I went through that when I picked up my 4HP Deluxe. Ended up using a sawzall to cut off the outside ends of the lock bar, then drilling as much of the bar out from each end through the adjustment holes as I could.

When I did that I was able to use a hammer and punch and drive the bar out, but even then it wasn't easy.

That bar is made of tempered metal so you wouldn't want to cut it using a hacksaw or try to drill it out using anything but cobalt bits.

After cutting off the ends of the bar, I figured out that I don't need to actually take it off. I can just put on a new bar in the other holes and the bracket will lock anyway.

Trick is finding a new 7mm bar that will hold up to the engine torque.

Wire brush, sand, or file the insides and outsides of the trim rod. Get a cheap propane torch and heat the brackets on both sides. Dang, be patient before you damage something :)
Don't burn your boat. G Luck

To update this thread a bit, I found a good 8" zinc plated bolt at Lowes, cut off the end threads and drilled a hole for a clip. It fits the trim holes perfectly and doesn't interfere with the locking mechanism. The old bar is still in there.

Not bad for under $3.
