9.9 Yamaha Lower end oil.??

I started by draining the fluid, really didn't look bad for the number of hours, it was 100% synthetic. I then started refilling and didn't have quite enough, I had part of a qt of a different brand, I filled my pump bottle with and finished filling. Now having second thoughts, about mixing different brands, even though both were synthetic.
Any thoughts on the subject will be welcomed. I can also drain and buy more. I don't won't be using the boat until July.

I know nothing about synthetic, but maybe if you post what it was you mixed, someone may have an opinion

Did they both have the same service rating, something like GL5?

As long as they both carry the same service rating, oil is oil. One brand may put a little bit more of this in it for an anti-foaming agent. Another might put a little bit more of that in it for corrosion resistance. As long as the both meet the minimum specification required by the manufacturer of what your pouring the oil into, it's all good. If you find the oil in your cars engine is getting a little low, you wouldn't need to run out and find the exact brand that the person who did your oil change (if it wasn't you) used, right?

This lower end synthetic oil. I think one is Sta lube and other was Pennzoil. Both are 100% synthetic, that is what I have been running in the gear case the last 2 1/2 years.

If you look at the label on the back of the bottles, they will tell you what service rating they carry. Typical synthetic hypoid gear oil is GL5

I went out and checked the bottles, both are synthetic gear oil GL5.
