hey guys,

I have been looking on my 2004 Yamaha 90 2 stroke for the pressure relief valve "poppit valve" and I can't seem to find. I did a search on here first and found a pic from a 150 but I don't see anything close to it. My model has the oil tank mounted on the block. could it be behind there? does anyone have a pic they could post on this model so I can try and trouble shoot my overheat alarm.

Thanks,
Andrew

Take off the thermostat cover. It is under that cover along with the thermostat.

Don't forget to order a gasket! Replace that thermostat while you've got it opened up too!

Re: 90 2 stroke pressure relief valve location?

Okay update, with your help I was able to find my pressure valve and was able to remove it. I have attached pictures within the link for your guys professional advice. The pressure valve looks good in my opinion and will re-use it but I think I should go ahead and change the thermostat as dukes reccomemed. I need to remove the gasket off the cover and it is really on there and you can see in the pics I tore it a bit. any tricks for getting it off and cleaning the surface. Where can I buy one at? Add any info if you like but this doesn't look like the cause of my overheating and I am pretty sure it's the impeller now. So will replace that as well. Thanks for you help you guys are awesome as I am still learning my motor.

Take a putty knife and gently pry off what gasket is left on both surfaces.

To really clean the surfaces, I use fine grit sand paper (like around 150 grit 1st, then 4 or 500). Stuff paper towels (wet) in the thermo housing to be sure you don't add grit to the block though!

I get my parts here at iboats:

Part #: 688-12414-A1-00

Just search that part number in Google and there will be a link to iboats part for you.

Get to it!!! I sent you a Private Message with more tips!

Got everything back together. new T-stat and check the pressure valve so at least I have peace of mind there. I just need to install a new impeller and I think she will be good to go. Thanks for your help. With the impeller and T-stats replaced that is the majority of the cooling parts correct?

You may want to get a kit with the inpeller, plate, cup, etc. and does not cost much more.
if it has been overheating and not putting out much water out of the tell tail you may have lost some rubber off of the impeller and shoved it into the motor plugging passages so look closely and see if most if not all pieces are there when you tear it apart. Buy a manual and you will be appy you did in the long run

Should be good to go now, UNLESS your old impeller is missing pieces and you have not retrieved them!

Go fishin'!!!!
