90 3.0 to 89 3.0

Howdy,
i have a 1990 larson all american with the merc 3.0/alpha 1 combo. Well my brother in law used the boat last weekend snapped the belt claims he didnt know iit snapped and needless to say it overheated and the boat came back with a cracked block. I got a great deal on an 89. Im a mechanic, im not afraid of the swap, i just know i n 1990 things were different. I just need to know what im going to need to change/do in order to make it work. Can anyone help ???

Sorry doing this on a phone is new to me. I meant am 89 3.0 complete drop in. Ill be using my drive/coupler etc. Ive heard that is where i will run into the differences .......not sure what was changed over in 90'

The engine will be the same, the issue will be in the attachments. What serial number is the current and what is the new one?

Can we assume your brother in law is paying for and helping with this changeover? Just curious as I have been badgered in the past because I do not let anyone use my boat. Thought I might use your post as an example as why I don't.

Sorry i dont have the info right now boats at the marina i will get it asap. Im going to look at the motor tommorow, so i will get the # then. And, if it checks out i plan on bringing it home. Airshot. I made an exception this once and this happens....... paying for yes, helping, dont want him to. He has the mechanical ability of a retarded duck.

Ayuh,.... Ya may run into the rear main seal change, but if yer swappin' Complete motors, it won't matter,...

Thanks bondo. I know its pretty much a direct bolt in, but i do remember a two piece rear main up until 91, after that one piece.
