I've been reading the posts on this topic and decided to replace my fuel pump with the non-vro type; had it off today and believe it's shot. I've been mixing anyhow and the replacement cost for the VRO is excessive if your not using it. Has anyone done this conversion? If so what pump did you use, a part number would be a plus!
Thanks

Re: 90 Evinrude 70 HP - VRO/Fuel Pump Replace

I was having problems with my VRO pumping way too much oil into my carbs so I completely removed the VRO, plugged the pulse hose and installed an electric fuel pump. Everything is working great now, just have to premix the gas and oil.

... and installed an electric fuel pump.

You're about to get jumped on about not installing electric fuel pumps on outboard engines. Reason being is that if the engine stalls for some reason the fuel pump will keep running, possibly flooding the carb if the float valve doesn't seat perfectly, or if there's a leaky fuel line spraying fuel where you don't want it

Agree, electric fuel pump is a very bad idea. Terrible accident waiting to happen in my opinion.

Don't even thing about an electric fuel pump on a boat like yours.

If you want to get rid of the "VRO" pump, just get the plumbing and pump from a 1984 70hp motor and install them on yours.

The fuel pump off of a 1984 will not bolt up to your vro engine .... your pump will have to have a fuel in .... fuel out .... and an external pulse line.... the stock 1984 fuel pump bolts directly to your engine and the pulse fitting is built into the backside of the pump. I am trying to do the same thing you are attempting and have already bought the wrong fuel pump sierra # 18-7352 ... I think we can use the Sierra # 18-7353 ( has all three fittings ) But this pump is for a 20-30 hp engine .... Can anyone tell us if this will work for a 60hp -- 90 hp ??? thanks

To tennhillbilly: Pump # 438556 will bolt up to the engine.

Aftermarket 18-7352 will also work. http://www.iboats.com/Fuel-Pump/dm/*******.989433184--**********.446642391--view_id.174141

Hi guys, new to the site from athens, al. I was wanting to get away from the VRO pump on my early 90's bass tracker that has 60hp evinrude tracker, 60tlene, is the model number. Was wondering i could go with an earlier non VRO pump?
